Pattern recognition analysis of acoustic emission signals propagated through a waveguide – A simulation study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Pattern recognition (PR) analysis of acoustic emission (AE) signals for classifying the source mechanisms involved, is a widely accepted practice, if the signals are directly picked up from the test specimen. However, there is an apprehension for the same, when a waveguide (WG) is used to pickup the signals. In the present paper, the validity of PR analysis has been studied on burst AE signals even after their propagation through a WG, using a software routine for wave propagation in cylindrical rods, based on Pochhammer-Chree (PC) equations, developed by Seco F et al. “PCDISP: a tool for the simulation of wave propagation in cylindrical waveguides”, In: The 9 international congress on sound and vibration, in Orlando, Florida (2002). It is found that irrespective of the dimensions of the cylindrical WG, PR analysis can classify different source mechanisms. An experiment to support the simulation is also included.

Due to the extensive use of composites in various industries and the fact that defects reduce ultimate strength and efficiency during operation, detection of failures in composite parts is very important. The aim of this paper is to use Acoustic Emission (AE) non-destructive method in four-point bending test of carbon/epoxy composite to analyze and examine the failure mechanisms. This method is...
متن کاملCombining pattern recognition and deep-learning-based algorithms to automatically detect commercial quadcopters using audio signals (Research Article)
Commercial quadcopters with many private, commercial, and public sector applications are a rapidly advancing technology. Currently, there is no guarantee to facilitate the safe operation of these devices in the community. Three different automatic commercial quadcopters identification methods are presented in this paper. Among these three techniques, two are based on deep neural networks in whi...
متن کاملStudy of the Frictional Surface Damage Using Acoustic Emission Method
In this study, the change at rubbing surfaces has been investigated experimentally using an acoustic emission signal monitoring system. A steel ring is slipped on the surface of a metallic sheet to simulate frictional conditions. The mechanical disturbances caused by the movement of the ring produce stress waves propagating along the sheet surface. The out of plane displacement of the sheet su...
